FEEDER cable USE-2 What is a USE-2 cable? Applications, Structure and Standards
In North American power distribution systems, USE-2 cables are widely used in underground electrical installations. It is designed for durability, moisture resistance and reliable power distribution in residential, commercial and utility applications.
Understanding the characteristics of USE-2 cables helps engineers, contractors and importers select the correct cables for underground power systems.
What does USE-2 mean?
USE-2 stands for Underground Service Entrance Cable. It is specifically designed for underground installation and is commonly used for service entrance connections between power companies and buildings.
This type of cable is manufactured in accordance with Underwriters Laboratories standards, specifically UL 854.
Key features include:
• Rated voltage: 600V
• Insulation: Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE)
• Rated temperature: 90°C wet or dry
• Suitable for direct underground burial installation
Due to its strong insulation and moisture resistance, USE-2 cables perform well in harsh underground environments.
The cable is used to distribute power from utility transformers to residential or commercial buildings.
These cables are typically used in secondary distribution networks, where power is delivered from utility lines to end users.
USE-2 Cable Structure
USE-2 cables typically have a simple and durable structure designed for underground installation.
A typical structure includes:
• Conductor: Aluminum or Copper
